Is Your Marketing Content a Trick or a Treat?

bigstock-152888207-300x300There is more than one way to sell a widget. You can tell people why it's a good widget, what benefits it gives, and why they need it. You can tell people they need one Now! Now! Now! Or tell them your widget repair service is the best in the biz. You can go door-to-door, blog about it, send them a postcard, or put a sign on a billboard and show the world how awesome your widget is! Treat them with the best content you can! There is no limit on how you market your widget... unless it's a trick.

Telling people things that aren't true is no way to do business. Here are some great examples of that slippery slope of tricking your consumers from Business Insider:

VW falsely advertised environmentally friendly diesel cars.
 
On March 29 this year, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Volkswagen, which claimed that the car company had deceived customers with the advertising campaign it used to promote its supposedly "Clean Diesel" vehicles, according to a press release.
 
In 2015, it was exposed that VW had been cheating emissions tests on its diesel cars in the US for the past seven years.
Kellogg said Rice Krispies could boost your immune system.
 
Kellogg's popular Rice Krispies cereal had a crisis in 2010 when the brand was accused of misleading consumers about the product's immunity-boosting properties, according to CNN.
 
The Federal Trade Commission ordered Kellogg to halt all advertising that claimed that the cereal improved a child's immunity with "25 percent Daily Value of Antioxidants and Nutrients — Vitamins A, B, C and E," stating the claims were "dubious."
